As you age, you may begin to develop fine lines and wrinkles on your face. Commonly, these are found around the eyes and lips. Reducing these fine lines can help give you a younger appearance.
Skin Care Products
One place to start is with the skin care products you use. All skincare is not created equal! Medical-grade skincare is an investment in your skin that may be pricier than drugstore brands but delivers results that may save you from spending much more on corrective treatments! Retinoids are helpful because they lead to an increase in collagen in your skin. Collagen is what improves the elasticity of your skin and it keeps your skin from sagging or wrinkling. Collagen production decreases as we age, so adding products to boost collagen are very helpful. In addition to retinoid and other collagen-boosting products, you can also use products containing hyaluronic acid to boost moisture levels in the skin layers. Hyaluronic acid draws in water, thereby plumping the skin and decreasing the look of lines and wrinkles.
Botox and Dermal Filler
To prevent and correct fine lines and even deep lines, botox and filler can be great options. Botox relaxes the muscles that cause facial expression that lead to wrinkling. Results from Botox last 3-4 months. Starting a Botox regimen before you develop lines and wrinkles is a great preventative approach, but if you already have them, don’t worry! Botox will still work for you! Dermal filler is a wonderful option for treating deep lines, especially on the lower face. Even adding filler to the cheeks can lift lines from the lower face, and take years off your appearance and add a more youthful radiance. Microneedling
Microneedling is another great options to treat fine lines! We apply topical numbing medication to the skin, then use a pen-like device to induce microinjury to the top of the skin to stimulate collagen production and resurfacing. Be forewarned, there are a lot of devices that do not have FDA-clearance and are not hygienic, so choose your provider wisely.
Laser Resurfacing & Subnovii
Laser skin resurfacing can reduce fine lines and wrinkles dramatically. We use a specific laser wavelength to painlessly resurface the skin. You will have approximately 1-2 weeks of redness and some textural changes as your skin sheds its surface layer, but the results are well worth the social downtime. Subnovii is a plasma pen that we call our “magic wand”. A quick and easy treatment obliterates fine lines and results last 3-5 years. Downtime with Subnovii and laser resurfacing are similar, and you will need to be diligent about sun protection after both of these treatments.
